No More Excuses

The November issue of "The Source" magazine got a lot of opinions about the presidential election from hip-hop artist, actors, comedians, etc. David Banner probably had one of the best quotes in the magazine. He stated:

"....Most people are looking at Obama as a savior. Most people are looking at Obama as relief for them. Obama is the beginning of Black people not having excuses no more. We can't blame it on "the man" because "the man" is about to be a Black man. So, this is our opportunity to squash all excuses and stand up and work harder. If this man gets in office, it's time for us to stand up and work harder because now the opportunity and the spotlight is on us."

This quote is true in too many different ways. This man has overcame just about every obstacle there is for a black man. So when it comes to excuses, WE HAVE NONE!! I feel like this is the first time since the Civil Rights movement that black people has come together for a common cause. We voted, and our voices were heard. But we can't stop there. We have to do just what David Banner said and work harder and take advantage of opportunities given to us!!

Reading this magazine i had this impression..

To the blacks who are seen as the uneducated, ignorant or poor and not do anything with their lives (i mean from a general veiw...this isnt a reason not to have any excuses anymore because their problems are systematic they have consistantly gotten the ass end of life handed to them on a platter and told to make the best of it...where the question remains how am i supposed to be sucessfull with one parent, poor, less than poor education and living in shambles...thats why stereotypically they feel that the only way they can suceed is by Rapping, Balling/singing or acting and last but definitely not least resorting to selling drugs..so Obama becoming president gives hope but to be honest unless the system changes I feel will only leed to a slim rise in the lives of these blacks.

Now the reason i agree is because for people like me and you..you meaning the black college students this should give us reason to stop making excuses and blaming any of our problems on anyone else that it doesnt come from...Obama being elected should show us or give us more reason not to be content and settle. He gives reason not to just settle for ok and average to go above and beyond in and out of the classroom. If you personally dont feel your the type of person who can go above and beyond then you should fall in line with someone who is so you dont get left behind so you can continue the change and the hope and change systematical poverty for our "brothers" and "sisters" to help lead them to sucess..
