Aside from the fact that we are all a people of pride, culture and intelligence, it is important that we offer positivity amongst intense criticism as well. With that stated, today's positive black news is the co founder of YOUR United Black Student Association is officially a Doctoral Candidate, who will graduate in June at the age of 26. Although her name shall remain nameless (for confidentiality purposes) her contributions are endless, and we definitely commend her for being an inspiration to us all. Congrats Mentor...you give the Black youth someone to look up to.

So is Halloween an excuse for ignorance now?? Come on folk...we must do better.

Biting the HAND that Feeds You?

4 those of us who have the misfortune of dwelling in the overpriced, overcrowded Clifton area, one can't help to notice the ridiculous amount of robberies that have occured in the last week. I'm use to receiving about 3 emails a quarter informing me that someone walking to (insert random location) at (insert time past 12am) with their (IPOD, BLACKBERRY, IPHONE, or other miscellaneous cliche 2008 electronic item) was robbed with some miscellaneous weapon but this is getting ridiculous. There have been at least 8 cases of robberies in early October, with one occuring as early as 8PM!!!. While it saddens and angers me that we have criminals preying on unsuspecting citizens, I am truly annoyed at the fact that the suspect is always identified as a Black Male, between 5'10 - 6'2 with a jeans and a hoodie around the ages of 18-25.

Brothas always have the misfortune of being categorized as thugs and criminals and this perpetuates that even more unfortunately those ideaologies are now being echoed throughout our campus, which lies in a city that has traces of tense race relations. I'm appreciative of the Hand that keeps me apprised to ensure my safety, but saddened that my male counterparts have to be subject to further scrutiny on the campus they pay for. Don't misconstrue my words though, the criminals that are perpetuating these crimes need to be apprehended immediately, its just unfortunate that the actions of a few are negatively affecting the many, Guess you can't win....
